Hello, I’m Christine Evans.

I’ve been interested in yoga since my teens - some little time now!  Over the years I’ve explored many of the approaches to yoga and meditation that are practised in this country and abroad.  I’ve constantly returned to the classical yoga tradition and texts (Hatha Yoga) as I’ve found that they’ve brought me most long-term benefit and restored my own health when I needed it.

I trained as a teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga* and I’ve been teaching classes since 2004 .  Although my teaching still follows many of the classical traditions, I’ve included  additional techniques and approaches that I’ve learned over the years as I feel they’ve benefitted my students and myself.  Since 2020 I've refocussed my classes to teach solely online.

I’ve had wide experience of teaching people with many particular health conditions, including sessions for people with limited mobility e.g. in wheelchairs, and taken part in medical research to show the benefits provided by the practice of yoga.  I’ve trained as a teacher of the “Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs”  programme which came out of research funded by the Arthritis Research Council.  If you’re interested in more information about this please check out their website yogaforbacks.co.uk.  I'm not currently teaching this as a separate course but use many of the practices in my classes. I've also trained as a "Movement Intelligence, Bones for Life"® teacher.  This looks at improving bone density and encouraging new movement habits.  This is all incorporated into my yoga teaching.

My interests and studies include yoga’s sister sciences of Jyotish (Indian astrology), Ayurveda (Indian medicine), and Vastu (Indian Feng Shui).  These studies complement my interest in Western astrology, herbal and holistic medicine, as well as the modern, mindfulness approach to meditation.  I try to bring a balance of the western and eastern traditions to make yoga and meditation accessible to all.  I’m sure you understand that my range of interests brings an eclectic flavour to my teaching!

Please feel free to contact me to discuss any concerns.  All information is treated in strict confidence.

I hold a teaching diploma from the British Wheel of Yoga* and I'm a registed teacher with Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs and Intelligent Movment, Bones for Life®.

*British Wheel of Yoga is recognised by the Central Council for Physical Recreation (CCPR)  and Sport England as the national governing body for yoga.  The organisation runs three-year teaching diploma courses and requires proof of continuing professional development to maintain membership as well as an up-to-date First Aid certificate.
